Since June 2012, Lotus has delivered responsible and progressive sustainability solutions for public and private sector clients. Our consulting services combine the technical and pragmatic approaches of engineering and finance with the holistic and innovative approaches of efficiency and sustainability.
We have supported public and private sector clients with their sustainability initiatives, energy performance contracting projects, solar gardens, greenhouse gas accounting, energy and water efficiency strategies, and market/regulatory analyses. We excel at helping clients look at their environmental and social initiatives through various lenses including public relations, financial, political, and environmental.

Who We Are
Emily Artale; PE, CEM, LEED AP
Principal Engineer and Co-owner
Emily has been an environmental and sustainability consultant for over a decade. Her education and work experience began in water quality and evolved to energy and sustainability. She started Lotus in 2012 because she saw gap in many of the environmental and sustainability related services being offered. There were big-picture global thinkers that were dedicated to making our world a better place and there were detail-oriented, pragmatic engineers that were cautious of major changes. Few offered big-picture and progressive solutions that considered fundamental, real-life constraints. She created a company that addressed these issues, resulting in transparent, defensible, and world-changing solutions. She asked Hillary to join her shortly thereafter to bring redundant skill sets to the company and to take advantage of Hillary's expertise in business, finance, and policy.
Emily has worked with private companies developing greenhouse gas emission inventories, integrating sustainable practices into corporate operations, and tracking performance metrics. She has helped public agencies develop, manage, and execute energy efficiency programs, navigate through energy performance contracting projects, assess risk scenarios for engaging in renewable energy systems, and develop climate action plans. As part of a UN sponsored initiative, she worked with world renown sustainability expert, Hunter Lovins, on redefining manufacturing using sustainable practices.
She received her undergraduate and graduate degrees in environmental engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is a Colorado native and spends most of her time outdoors with her family.

Hillary Dobos; MBA
Principal and Co-owner
Hillary Dobos brings both expertise and creative thinking to working with clients which she draws from her experience as a consultant advising public and private clients throughout the United States, as well as the one tasked with embedding sustainability throughout a 25,000+ person organization. Hillary is known for her market and regulatory/policy creation and analysis; financial acumen; communications (internal and external); and project and program management. Hillary has served on various local and national boards focused on conservation, pollution prevention, energy performance contracting, energy efficiency, and renewable energy.
Hillary earned her B.A. in Art History and Economics from Bowdoin College and her MBA from the University of Colorado-Boulder. Hillary is a LEED Green Associate and has a Certificate in Environmental Law and Regulation from the University of Washington. Hillary was born and raised in Denver, Colorado, where she enjoys the city life with her husband, sons, and moderately trained canine, Mr. Smiles.

Julia Ferguson; MURP, PMP
Julia Ferguson joined the team at Lotus in the summer of 2017, and is thrilled to bring her skills and expertise in sustainability program implementation, urban planning, policy development, and data and analytics to serve Lotus’s diverse clients. Having managed sustainability projects and programs for local governments and the non-profit sector, Julia brings a unique understanding of how to integrate sustainability into an organization’s daily practices and conversations to drive success. As a certified Project Management Professional, Julia is known for managing the development and implementation of complex sustainability projects that have reduced organizational costs and improved waste diversion metrics, led to increased renewable energy procurement, and created more efficient organizational processes. She specializes in innovative approaches to creating, measuring, and evaluating energy efficiency and renewable energy projects, and well as in the development and implementation of sustainability policy and process efficiency programs.
Julia holds a Masters in Urban Planning with a focus on environmental sustainability. Since moving to Colorado in 2014 from Cleveland, Ohio, she enjoys spending her time cooking, hiking, cycling, and exploring the amazing adventures the state has to offer.
